抄録: Our college was founded based on the ideas of developing sport-related talents as well as comprehensive studies on sports. Since the establishment in April 2003, we have been exploring an adequate method for research and educational instruction for our Course of School Sports in order to cultivate new types of sport professionals at school. The course mainly covers research for sports education, laying down sports pedagogy as an academic basis. “Sports pedagogy”has been widely acclaimed in our country. Among the school authorities, however, the term“physical education”, instead of“sports”, has been more commonly used. This may be attributed to the fact that sports in Japan have been developed primarily as a school curriculum and the government has applied the term“physical education”for the course of study.“Physical education”implies a more extensive concept than“sports”. It would take more time and effort to infiltrate new concepts such as“sports education”or “sports pedagogy”. In this paper, I would like to brief previous research trends on sport pedagogy based on journals of the related academic societies and suggest a future direction of research and instruction with a perspective of sports education at schools.
